Aviation Without Borders UK Smiling Wings Day with the Scottish Aero Club at Perth Airport was planned for Saturday 5th August, with Sunday 6th as backup, and that was just as well for Saturday was a washout. The Sunday weather was much better and the children invited by the Scottish Aero Club for the day from the Boomerang Centre and Ninewells Hospital in Dundee were all able to fly before heavy rain fell again by about midafternoon.
While waiting for turns to fly, there were tours of the hangar with talks of aircraft and flying, a buffet lunch was served and a face painter was there to keep the kids amused. The pilots and members of the club warmly welcomed the children and, with five aircraft available, 2 x PA28s, a Vans RV-6A, a Tecnam P2002, and a Gruman Tiger, they managed to fly 25 youngsters and some family members.
‘What a fantastic day the children had,’ said Alison from Boomerang. ‘It was such a wonderful day and all the children were very happy.’ The photos say it all!
